About the Artist

Steve Fountain at Solo Show 2017

A teacher of mine once said rather tongue-in-cheek that if being conscious is what it means to be "human," most of us are not human most of the time. For me, art and science are our best means of more deeply connecting with the world's complexity and beauty. I had a long career as a neuroscientist/educator (click "FountainLab" for a brief summary), yet for much of that time I also created oil paintings. I am now engaged nearly full-time in "observing the world" and "painting in oils." I hope my paintings give you pleasure!
